I wrote this as a note of thanks to the staff at Ann Charlton Lodge. The Nursing Home at which I am a resident. But I feel it may apply to many/most who care for others. So I share it here:

Thank You

To all who care for the residents at ACL

People who care for people, should be recognised most, lauded greatest, thanked most.

You should be the ones artist’s model as statues.

You should be the ones people marvel at.

You should be the ones held up as examples.

You should be the ones people praise.

You are the true heroes, the great ones.

You are the ones to whom people should look as examples.

You are the ones who work through the night and through the day.

You are the ones who work through sickness and difficulty.

You are the ones who work in the muck and the filth.

You are the ones who work in the heat and the cold.

You are the ones who work even when exhausted and yet smile.

You are the ones who struggle and keep going.

You are worth more than gold and jewels.

You are the ones we should hold up and say:

‘How amazing, how wonderful, how great they are.’

Because you look after people. Not things, not money, not cars, not jewels.

But people ordinary people.

People are what matter in this world, and those who look after people are the most important people in the world.

We celebrate, congratulate, and thank you.

You are amazing people you work so hard and are seen so little.

Words cannot be enough. But they are all I have.

Thank you to all of you who care and give so much. You are such wonderful and amazing people.
